Original 1862 double-page antique woodblock engraving from a drawing by Alfred R. Waud,published in Harper'sWeekly more than 158 years ago.
- The image area measures 34.4 x 51 cm[13½" x 21"] and depicts Union soldiers on the attack during the First Battle of Kernstown during the Civil War.
- This battle was fought on March 23, 1862, in Frederick County and Winchester, Virginia at the start of Confederate Maj. Gen. Thomas J. "Stonewall" Jackson's campaign through the Shenandoah Valley.
- The action depicted in this engraving is the decisive bayonet charge of the Federal troops. It is titled: "The Battle of Winchester — DecisiveCharge Upon the Rebels at the Stone Wall."
