Joseph T. Tykociner; 5 October 1877, inWłocławek,Congress Poland– 11 June 1969, inUrbana, Illinois,United States) was a Polish engineer and a pioneer ofsound-on-filmtechnology.

In 1921 he became the first research professor ofengineeringat theUniversity of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Within a year of his arrival at the University, he conducted the first sound-on-filmmotion picturerecordings at a physics demonstration that showed how pictures and sound could be synchronized to produce a "talkie", a motion picture with sound. The lot includes the following:
1. Zetetics and Areas of Knowledge by Joseph T. Tykociner, 1964, IllinoisDedicated to friends and signed, however the names of the friends are unknown and covered w/ black marker as seen in photos.2. Research as a Science-Zetetics by Joseph T. Tykociner, 1958, Urbana, Illinois
3. A group of photographs of the professor and other scientists in the Lab in the Electrical Engineering Experimental station/building. There are photos of the lab, demonstrating the Magnetron, The professor holding his invention, the original roll of sound on film, the lab and the apparatus, more as seen in photos!
Measurements:There are 3 photos on the greyish paper are permanently glued. All 3 measure 3 1/8" long x 3 1/8" wide (These 3 have duplicates)
3 photos on the black paper measure 5" long x 4" wide, the other 4 measure 4" long x 5" wide.2 loose photos measure approx. 4 1/2" L x 3" w and 3 1/4" L x 4 1/2" wAll the photos have wear, and some have the papers in corners from being ripped from the page of an album. The black sheet holding photos has wear. tears, and writing is fading.
