Two Sepia-Tinted Gold Mining Photographs From Oregon Ghost Town:

Offering a wonderful pair of sepia-tinted silver gelatin gold mining and sluicing photographs, 6 x 10, depicting gold panning and sluicing near Bourne, Oregon, now a ghost town, at the beginning of the 20th century. The photos show members of the Jeffreys and Gamb families standing and holding gold pans and sluicing next to a sluice box, while in the second photograph, water flows through the sluice washing the pay with gold pan cocked on its side.

Grace Gambs (1877-1964) had moved in 1903 from Indiana with her sister Lavinia Powers, following the death of their father, John Jeffreys, to live with their brother Oscar, a gold miner. Oscar, Grace and Lavinia worked their own claims, while he worked for Eureka & Excelsior Mine and Mill, which by 1904 had produced $1 million in gold ore.

These photographs were originally purchased from the family as part of a larger collection.

Slight dust soiling, some creasing. One tiny tear at the very bottom. A superb example of gold mining Americana.
