The technology is finally here! A true shortwave (UVC) LED flashlight. These custom built flashlights represent years of work to make affordable, powerful, portable shortwave LEDs a reality. There are over 500 species of fluorescent minerals, and of these, only about 10% glow in longwave light, while roughly 90% glow under shortwave light. For mineral lovers, shortwave is king. Of course, shortwave lights have many other applications in industry, research, business, and more, but minerals are our area of expertise.

This light features a single, powerful 257nm LED on a custom driver, powered by a single included battery (charger also included), all in the popular Convoy M1 host. The light includes a dichroic filter, which blocks unwanted wavelengths from exiting the lens, while allowing for far more UV light to pass through than the ZWB or even HOYA filters found in other shortwave lights. The 80mW beam it creates gives a fluorescent response equivalent to a traditional 9W 254nm tube-based shortwave lamp. The long throw and tight, strong beam of the flashlight mean you can easily browse fluorescent minerals in a brightly lit mineral show or home setting without requiring total darkness. When you're outside rockhounding, you can start hunting earlier in the evening, and cover more ground than ever without crawling in the dirt or even stooping over like you need to with old tube lights. On top of all this is the amazing portability, as it slips easily into your pocket at just 5.25" (13cm) long, with a 1" (2.5cm) body diameter / 1.5" (3.5cm) head diameter and weighing in at just 5.8 oz (165g) including the battery.

A feature of the light is to begin blinking to let you know it either needs to cool down or if the battery is running low. This light has been upgraded in late 2022 from the Convoy S2 to the Convoy M1 host, which provides much better heat dissipation for a longer runtime. Nevertheless, unlike other LED flashlights, shortwave lights are not meant to be run continuously, and should be cycled off frequently to allow them to cool down. Continuous runtime before a cool down depends on atmospheric temperature. For those used to tube lights, have no fear, as frequent on/off cycles of the flashlight will NOT reduce the lifespan of the light like it does with tubes.
