Super-rare1940's fully operational vintage "sphero-lux" photographers lightand special effects lamp. This one is a polished aluminum tabletop model with black Bakelite handles, lens-ring, and switch. A truly amazing piece of Midcentury Modern industrial design.
The robot-like orb design was used as a special-effects lamp with which different filters (clipped in front of the lens) would produce lighting textures such as blinds, clouds, lattice, silhouetteetc. There are no filters included with this listing. There is an image I found online that seems to try to explain that function. It is NOT part of this listing, but you can see it in the photos for context. They may have been manufactured by Jandor, Inc out of Chicago, but I could not confirm. They also offered models with heavy-duty, adjustable tripods, which this one would also attach to.
This extremely unique and rare lamp is in excellent shape for its age. It works great and even appears to have the original bulb. Typical wear blemishes. Some of white paint in "Sphero-lux" on one handle is missing. Some very small paint splatters in places.
