1856 Promissory Note from Canton, Mississippi Planter and Slaveholder Thomas Sanders to the firm of Dancy & Brown. Records indicate that Sanders owned more than 1,000 acres of former Choctaw land. The 1830 Federal Census reports that he owned five slaves. 3 x 7 ¾ on a single sheet, dated January 1st, 1856 with Sanders’ promise to pay twenty-six dollars and fifty-seven cents.

On blue paper, engraving by Lippincott Crambo & Co. of Philadelphia.
