This really nice 3-rail AC HO gauge loco is a limited edition by Marklin 3774 a DB V160 / BR 216 diesel locomotive with clear ‘crystal’ bodywork, it has running number 216 127-1. These models were originally built by Marlin to allow dealers to demonstrate the new digital electronic system inside the loco and as such are quite rare.

The V160 is the first variant of the V160 family, built for the Deutsche Bundesbahn for medium/heavy trains. The Class were successful locomotives, eventually leading to a family of similar locomotives. Due to them having steam heating, and a lack in later years of suitable coaching stock they were amongst the first of the family to be withdrawn, no examples being operated by Deutsche Bahn by 2004. A few examples were converted to the short lived DBAG Class 226, with other examples being rebuilt and still in service with private operators. In 1968 the V160s were known as the BR 216.

They formed the backbone of non-shunting locomotive diesel traction in Germany up to the 1990s, and continued to do so along with the Class 232 locomotives of the former Deutsche Reichsbahn in the 2000s

The loco is in good condition as you can see in the pictures, We are unable to test it as we do not have a three rail AC test rig or track, so we have not tested it but can see no reason why it would not run. It is sold in untested condition, this means that it may not run, and as such it is not being sold in running condition. However a complete external visual inspection has shown no reason why this loco would not run and the overall condition is very good. The box is in good if slightly shelf worn condition.

Overall this is a really nice scale locomotive and would look fantastic on a layout.
