MEGATOUCH Hard Drive ION 2014 FORCE 2011 Disk Update SSD EVO Aurora RX Merit AMI:
$22.00

warranty: If drive EVER fails, even years from now, FREE exchange! NEVER-ENDING FREE technical support! Possibly the largest single Megatouch & Infinity parts source left in the world... Same account for decades, same business address for over 50 years! :)
This listing is for a replacement hard-drive boot device with complete game software installed and ready to "plug n' play" on your Megatouch ION/Aurora/RX, Force, or Touchmaster Infinity systems. This is the original factory software that REQUIRES A MATCHING SECURITY KEY. Please see our other item listings for keyless options. If "FORCE" is displayed on screen at start-up, the final update for that system is 2011, which also requires ~100000K or more extended system memory (RAM). Flatscreen LCD machines that power-on with "AMI" or "Merit" or "ASUS" or "Intel" displayed are likely ION systems, which can be updated to 2014, which requires ~500000K or more RAM. We offer numerous drive & adapter types, more than can be listed in the dropdown menus above, so please contact us for more options, including that skinny little SATA SSD for "no tools" taping to the top of the old FORCE hard drive. (If you need a software security key, WRITE TO US FIRST TO SAVE ON CERTAIN ANNUAL EDITIONS! Keys eventually die, so let's talk about how to avoid that too.)
Please be sure that all three drop-down menus above say "Select", and then choose your System first, the game edition Year next, and then the Device Type last! For ION-based games with purple or pink motherboards that have only IDE hard-drive connectors please choose "ION IDE Mobo". For gold or green ION motherboards (including Aurora and RX) with SATA hard-drive connectors directly on the motherboard, choose "ION SATA Mobo" only if you want to use your SATA port.
Use this item to update your machine or downdate if you prefer older games..., or if your machine displays the "Force 2003 Intelligent Entertainment" or other "Merit Industries" splash screen after you switch the power on but then stops at, "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER", this might be all you need to repair it. On Infinity, you may see a nice Intel splash screen and a report of computing basics ending with a C-drive error and "Press F1 to resume." If not a complete hard-drive failure, corrupted files on your old drive may just cause errors or crashes when playing certain games or using particular functions. In either case, re-loading the software or replacing the drive is often the fix. You may even have heard the old hard drive whining louder and louder before eventually grinding to a halt.
You choose the drive type, you choose the game version. Easiest install is the same type used previously. Please ask us prior to purchase if uncertain! A reliable, inexpensive, solid-state compact-flash-card-in-adapter(CF) or other solid-state drive (SSD) is recommended, but good old-fashioned true spinning disk drives similar to originals are also an alternative while supplies last. A CF card may be purchased alone or with an IDE adapter or with both an IDE and a power adapter. Use of the small CF frees-up valuable space in hot, jamb-packed EVO units. It also allows for a quick change from one software version to another by simply plugging-in another card and key. The last few editions of ION software require a fairly expensive CF card, so for ION 2009.5 and higher, we recommend more common SSD's to keep costs down (standard 2.5" or a tiny mSATA still fit easily.) But, if you still want every edition on CF cards for easy swapping, we can do that too, and it will still cost less than options from other sources. If there's a drive option not listed in the menus, just write and ask first, we can probably do it for you. You may also choose to ship your own drive device to us for re-imaging. (If some prices here seem too good to be true, note our response score, over 20 years on , and remember we are primarily collectors, players, and fellow buyers, not typical dealers.
NOTE: If your ION runs on a green INTEL motherboard, you may only choose from 2009.5 up through 2014 editions. We also offer replacement motherboards, so contact us if you believe you may need one, including the one model that runs all ION edition years as well as having both SATA and IDE ports..., and many of our boards are new-old-stock rather than the used and abused that often appear on .
In your Touchmaster Infinity, the old ribbon cable can be eliminated, because there's room enough to simply plug the CF card adapter directly into the game's circuit board set..., which neatens things up and allows the board set to slide out more easily for maintenance without disconnecting the drive. Your Infinity power supply likely has an unused "floppy drive" power tap hanging from it that can be untangled and routed carefully over to the new CF adapter, which plugs-in perfectly without modification. Or, our optional power adapter allows connection of the original hard drive power feed (or other unused taps) to the new CF adapter in either Megatouch or Infinity. You will receive the correct type of CF adapter based on your choice of system, Force or Infinity, but for ION we also need to know the motherboard color. Further, if the ION board is gold, you will have to tell us if you're connecting the drive with a 2-inch wide ribbon cable or a little quarter inch wide flat cable(probably red.)
Use the dropdown menus above to choose Megatouch ION IDE, ION SATA or Force and the desired game year; or choose Midway Touchmaster Infinity v2.03, 2.03a, 2.03cNJ, or Alpha-In-Progress. A 3rd menu allows choice of drive type and adapters. Additional software editions or hardware combo's may be added or made available by request. If you're not a game museum curator nor sentimental about a particular year or version, we recommend Megatouch ION 2014, Force 2011 and Touchmaster Infinity Alpha. Megatouch 2007.5 is best for those who love the Merit-thon's and some other older favorites that were eliminated in 2008. ION 2013 & 2014 have a darker, slightly more off-color raunchier barroom aesthetic, so 2012 might be a good choice for the last cleaner, whole family-friendly presentation. (ION editions require a more costly CF card, which is the primary reason for price differences.)
Be sure that you have the specific security key for the Megatouch platform and year that you want, or just order the year that matches the key that's already in your game. If you want to change your software edition and SECURITY KEY prices seem crazy high or you're concerned about SECURITY KEYS eventually dying, write to us now for alternatives. Never attempt to install software for one system platform onto a machine designed for another, as serious damage could result! If you're uncertain about any of it, please write and ask! :)
Infinity Alpha has more games than the 2.03's, but it's an unreleased, unfinished version that was in development by Midway programmers. Some games are labeled "In Progress" and aren't fully functional yet, but most work great and are superior in look, sound, and function compared to comparable Megatouch games. The high-quality Infinity audio soundtrack is also worth hooking-up to your home music system! Of course, Megatouch makes up for its shortcomings by having A LOT more games and snazzy EVO cabinets with slightly larger high-resolution flat screens. I've tried for the best of both worlds by cobbling together a system for pushing a button to switch between Megatouch and Infinity on the same EVO unit... It's more fun than a barrel-uh-monkeys I tell ya..., especially if you love hitting them with a bat. But seriously folks, how did the Megatouch team ever decide that "Monkey Bash" would have such wide appeal? In the 2010 edition, the goofy clown became a muscle-bound hulk who whacks the poor monkey with his hand instead of with a bat. Yeah, that's much better... Also fun when the Conquest guy screams & disintegrates or the Four Play guy is crushed with a boulder. ;)
Security keys are not included but may be listed separately from time to time, and in some cases are unnecessary. Don't buy a security key from anyone until you check with us first! This listing is for a custom software install on a bootable storage device, nothing more. You must already have your own Megatouch or Infinity game system into which this drive device would be installed by you. If not ordering the same type of drive already in your game, you may need an adapter. You may only need your own two hands to unplug and re-plug two connectors, one for data and one for power. A screwdriver may be needed to remove the old disk drive. If a replacement drive is smaller than the original, you will have to use velcro tape, zip ties, etc creatively to mount it. Hardware sold here may be new or used, but both carry the same guarantee. Returns will be considered indefinitely, but for exchange only. Items are made to order, not mass produced, so quantities are limited. Detailed installation instructions, other parts, and tips available on a friendly basis. See our other listings or just write and ask.
Don't be appalled that there's no cooling fan next to the CF in our sample EVO picture. Instead, that former fan location is just another air inlet for the industrial-strength leaf blower we have pulling air out of a custom hole cut right behind the cpu.Note to other meticulous collectors interested in pre-2005.5 Megatouch editions: Unless you have a functional factory-original disk-drive to send-in, the generic devices we provide will cause Force to present itself as Maxx, which is still fun to play. This issue does not exist from 2005.5 forward. Certain editions, such as 2004.5, cannot be used at all except with original hardware.
Pictures show common drive types/shapes/sizes, not the precise brandname nor model you will receive. We are avid, museum-minded coin-op game collectors offering yet another source for products available elsewhere as to increase accessibility, lower costs, share repair tips, and offer more personal service to kindred spirits allowing more machines to be repaired by more collectors. If you see comparable items regularly for less elsewhere, just tell us. We promise the lowest price on any renewable production item. We have many other Megatouch parts not necessarily listed on . Please don't hesitate to contact us with questions! Best of luck! :)
Megatouch Tips!: Keep EVO heat sinks and airways clean and all fans spinning at top speed! (Aim lowest fans to blow upward, top fans to blow out. If any doubt at all, replace fans with new ones.) Renew CPU heatsink compound if you're handy with that sort of thing. Be meticulous about layout of internal wiring and connectors so when you close the monitor cabinet, the electronics aren't being crushed nor interfering with fans. Replace CPU fan if self-test speed reports less than 3500rpm. Confirm that power supply voltages are correct, and if the power supply gets very hot, replace with one rated for 250 to 300Watts or more, which runs cooler and helps all components last longer. Watch for bulging tops on failing can-shaped electrolytic capacitors, but don't replace them yourself unless you have significant soldering experience. If game does nothing at all when switched on, possibly just dead button cell CMOS battery on motherboard. Read about jumper-starting ATX power supplies (or write me), gently replace battery, connect a keyboard to the game's motherboard, startup with delete button pressed, set Fail-Safe Defaults, then set Optimized Defaults, set BIOS date and time, set boot order as ATAPI CD, HDD/IDE, and set to Power-On after power failure. Exit saving changes. On Midway Infinity, no jumper-startup needed, just replace CMOS battery, press F1 or F2 at start-up, set time & date, set to Power-On after power failure, disable floppy A drive and set IDE as first and only boot device. Exit saving changes.
