ALEXANDER AGASSIZ (1835-1910) SIGNED CARD, “March 28/05, A. Agassiz”, on a Museum of Comparative Zoology, Cambridge, Mass card 4 x 2.75, by the American zoologist (specialist in marine ichthyology), oceanographer, mining engineer, and son of Louis Agassiz (famous biologist and geologist). Up until the summer of 1866 he worked as assistant curator in the museum of natural history that his father founded at Harvard. He then became the co-owner of a mining company that would become by far the largest copper producer in the United States, and his scientific and engineering skill was a major factor in the mines great success and the basis of his substantial fortune. He then funded a large endowment at Harvard for the creation of the museum of comparative zoology of which he was the first curator (1874-85) and then director until his death. He did extensive writing on marine zoology and was co-author with his stepmother of several books: Seaside Studies in Natural History and Marine Animals of Massachusetts Bay.He was also the president of the National Academy of Sciences (1901-07). His museum card is in fine condition, with minor age toning. #12639
