• This poster measures 16¾" x 24" and isprinted on a heavy paper.
• The caption below the photo reads: "The firstphotograph ever made showing the division between the troposphere andthe stratosphere and also the actual curvature of the earth —photographed from an elevation of 72,395 feet, the highest point everreached by man."
• The photograph was taken on November 11, 1935 from the balloon ExplorerII. Army Captains Albert W. Stevens and Orvil A. Anderson seta new world altitude record in their ascent from the Stratobowl nearRapid City.
• The project was a collaborative effort between the U.S. Army andNational Geographic, and it was funded by the National GeographicSociety, which published this photograph as a supplement to its May1936 magazine.
