Up for sale is a 10 1/2\" x 8\" 1-page personal letter from W. Stuart Symington - on his Department of the Air Force letterhead - to Mr. Ned Brooks, dated April 19, 1950. In Full: \"Thank you very much for the invitation to the Gridiron dinner. It was thoughful of you and I appreciate it, and send you warm regards.\"
Ned Brooks (August 13, 1901 - April 1969) was an American television and radio journalist who was moderator of NBC\'s \"Meet the Press\" on television from 1953 until 1965, and earlier on radio. Brooks is the second-longest tenured moderator of the program after Tim Russert. He began his career in newspaper reporting in Ohio at the \"Ohio State Journal\" and for \"Scripps-Howard\" newspapers. For five years he was managing editor of the \"Youngstown (Ohio) Telegram\". He was later broadcaster for NBC\'s \"Three Star Extra\".
Mr. William Stuart Symington Jr. (June 26, 1901 - December 14, 1988) was an American businessman and politician from Missouri. He served as the first \"Secretary of the Air Force\" from 1947 to 1950, \"Chairman of the National Security Resources Board\" (1950-1951) and \"Reconstruction Finance Corporation Administrator\" (1951-1952) and was a Democratic US Senator from Missouri from 1953 to 1976. He was also an unsuccessful candidate for the Democratic Presidential Nomination in 1956 and 1960.
The letter is generally in good condition. It has wear and browning due to age. It has two creases across the middle where it was originally folded when mailed. It also has some red stains near the bottom edge. Heavier browning around the edges and some small dings.
