Vintage Herriman Under Bench Vise, No. 7, Jaws 7x4. Auto release, 9 in cap.:

This is a nice Herriman under bench vise. It turns smoothly and evenly. The steel jaws (you will perhaps want to use wooden pads with them) are 7 x 4 in.. Generally your wooden pads are larger than the steel ones.

This is an old vise, the patent date is 1909. It is No. 7.

The vise has a 9 in. capacity. In order to release it, you simply turn the handle 1/2 turn in reverse; then you can simply slide the vise open or closed. To re-engage the main bolt, simply turn the handle left to right.

Here are the concerns with this machine that I could find.
--There is rust and grime that can be cleaned off, although the vise works pretty well the way it is.
--The wooden handle is pretty flimsy for this vise; I included it, and you can fix the cap on the end with glue or a screw.
However, if it were mine, I would replace the handle with 1/2 in. water pipe with caps on each end.
--One of the bolts on the front has been replaced, so one of them is large and the other small. This does not affect the function at all.

This is a good vise for those who like things the way they used to be made....in AMERICA.
