Samuel Gompers playing card! From the Wiki: “…labor union leader and a key figure in American labor history. Gompers founded the American Federation of Labor (AFL) and served as the organization\'s president from 1886 to 1894, and from 1895 until his death in 1924.” He was more conservative than the socialists and promoted collective bargaining and, IMO, business unionism. When asked what labor wanted, he replied: “More.”
This vintage card is from a playing card set put out by Amalgamated Meat Cutters & Butcher Workmen of North America showing American labor union leaders. Probably in the 1950s. Measures 2 ½ x 3 ½. As shown. Minor wear. Very nice.
