The Nadi-Pavitri of the Naths

The nadi-pavitri is worn around the neck by Nath yogis or sannyasis and Naths, using a thread made of black wool.
When woollen thread is not available, you may use a thread of synthetic black wooll, or a simple thread of black colour. Even dikshas, including Aughar or sanyasi and householder diksha, could be given thus with the Nadi-pavitri put in a simple thread.

A thread of black wool: It symbolises our body-mind mechanism, which is made up of various nadis that goes on as the movement of sensations, feelings and thoughts, all of it being impermanent and uncertain.

Pavitri : Pavitra literally means holy. It symbolises emptiness, observation, meditating awareness.

Rudraksha: It could be said as a symbol of sensational stream of fear, anger, affection etc, and its observation. When you see pictures of Nath sadhus with the Nadi-pavitri of some three to four hundred years old in world galleries, you do not see rudraksha there in the nadi-pavitri or in the Nath janeu. It seems that, previously it was made up of only a thread of blackwool, a ring, and nadi/shingi.

Nadi : Nada literally means any sound or sounds. It symbolises sounds, vibrations, sensations, which is basic movement of the whole field of name & form. The movement of sensations and feelings or vibrations is "what is", is what we basically are.
So to sum up, nadi-pavitri symbolically represents the body-mind mechanism, our awareness, that is open with the holiness of the alakh sense or freedom from the known by knowing its place and limit, is observing "what is" and thus lives emptiness.
Skillful and intelligent observation of what is, of sensations and feelings, is the awakening of bodhi or divine fire on its own from beyond or from nowhere and the cleansing, emptying of our consciousness sweet psychological dying.

Janeu is a holy thread worn with nadi and pavitri by the NATH yogis. THERE is a complex procedure of making the same. The fine thread of black sheep wool is woven to make this.
The thread is further woven from 16 thin threads in definite procedure by chanting the janeu Mantra for several days or may take months for completion.
The woven janeu is now tied with the holy knot to make it circular. This knot is termed as Bhrama knot (called bhrama ganth). It is a firm faith in nath yogis it has the blessings of 64 yoginis, Six Yatis apart from Bhrama, Vishnu, Mahesh and shakti.
The pavitri, and total omkar (three beads and nadi) is fixed in a peculiar fashion to make NAD-JANEU. Moreover, Bhrama, Vishnu and Mahesh represent rajas, satva and tamas guna respectively. Once the nad janeu is made then SATGURU teaches the mantra to desciple GURU MANTRA and mantras for NADI ADESH, AND THE PROCEDURE TO BE FOLLOWED WHILE BLOWING THE NADI.
NADI adesh has certain definite rules its only done in front of SATGURU and Dhuna. Disciple without nad janeu are only allowed to do SHAMBHU ADESH (with mantra).
