About the artist: Willem Jacob Rozendaal was born in 1899 and educated at theArt Academy of The Hague, going on to work as a designer of lead glass panelsand developing his interest in woodcut. He began to establish himself producinggreetings cards for private clients and ex-libris plates. However in 1924 hebegan work in Maastricht designing ceramics for the Sphinx factory and in 1928started work 3 days a week designing the glassware for the Kristalunie. In aperiod of ten years he refocussed the company's products with hundreds ofdesigns for optic vases, drinking glasses, cut glass and a range of functionalhousehold objects in glass.
