RARE 1834 GENERAL LAFAYETTE MOURNING RIBBON - FANTASTIC CONDITION:

Up for sale is a rare and scarce 1834 General Lafayette silk mourning ribbon which commemorates the death of the revered American Revolutionary hero. The ribbon is white silk measuring approximately 6 1/4” x 2 1/4” . The ribbon is printed in black and features a symbol of an American eagle at the top . Below is a heavenly being figure with wings blowing a horn that creates a banner that reads “ A NATION MOURNS FOR LAFAYETTE “ In between the banner is an oval that has a portrait of General Lafayette in uniform. Directly below it reads “ GEN. LA FAYETTE , The adopted Son of the Great Washington, WAS BORN AT AUVERGNE, Sept, 6, 1757. DIED AT LA GRANGE FARM , PARIS , MAY 20th , 1834 . Aged 79 years 8 months and 14 days. Below it reads “ FUNERAL SOLEMNITIES “ Were performed in his Memory By the Citizens of Phila. July 21 st 1834.

Considering this beautiful ribbon is 190 years old it is in very good or even excellent condition. There are no folds , surface dirt, fraying, pin holes foxing or creasing noted which are typical on a fragile ribbon this old. However, there is a faint waterstain on the upper right hand surface of the ribbon .

This is an opportunity to own a piece of American Revolutionary War history honoring the great General Lafayette.

This fantastic 1834 General Lafayette Mourning Ribbon would make a wonderful addition to a collector.
