Circa 1969.We believe this wasthe very first item issued by any of the groupsthat Jackson belonged towithhis likeness on it. Measures 1 3/4" inches. Rare.


George Jackson (1941–1971) was an African-American civil rights leader, Black Pantherandmember of the Soledad Brothers.Whileincarcerated in prison, Jackson became involved in revolutionary activity and in 1966 co-founded the Marxist–Leninist Black Guerrilla Family.In 1970he published Soledad Brother: The Prison Letters of George Jackson, a combination of autobiography and manifesto addressed to a black American audience. The book revealed horrific abuse thatAfrican Americans facedwithin the prison system. While incarcerated he rose to the rank of Field Marshall within the Black Panther paramilitaryorganization. While in prison he had an ongoingromantic relationship with Black Panther leader Angela Davis who would later be charged with murder for trying to help Jackson escape from prison. Jackson was killed while in police custody in 1971.
