GIBBS, GEORGE. Advertising poster for his novel In Search of Mademoiselle, 1901.
Measuring about 13.5x21.5 inches or 34x55cm, with linen back adding about 2 inches to all sides, original lithographic print. Gibbs' novel is a romantic period piece, which he also illustrated, so it was only appropriate for him to illustrate the advertising. He was a real workhorse, doing covers for the Saturday Evening Post and other magazines while cranking out a novel a year, some of which got turned into movies. This poster is a great example of the Art Nouveau style that dominated the era.
