MARGARET SANGER (September 14, 1879 –September 6, 1966) was an American birth control activist, sex educator, writerand nurse. She popularized the term “birth control,” opened the first birthcontrol clinic in the United States and established organizations that evolvedinto the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. She was prosecuted for her book Family Limitation under the Comstock Actof 1914. She expected that to happen so she fled to Britain until she knew itwas safe to return to the United States. Her efforts contributed to severaljudicial cases that helped legalize contraception in the United States. She opposed abortion through most of hercareer.
