Mustafa Kemal Atatürk , who thought that women who actively participated in all the activities behind the front duringthe War of Independenceshould also play an active role in the social life of the newly established Republic, demanded the establishment of a school to give education to girls. The school, which was openedon October 11, 1923 by converting an old house inHacıbayram District ;It started its teaching activities under the name of\"Ankara Girls\' High School \".

Although there were only 79 students in the beginning, when this number increased to 115 the following year, the existing building was insufficient and the school was moved to another place.Although it was first transferred to a building nearAnafartalar High School, the ever-increasing student population of the school necessitated a different solution.Thereupon, the construction of a new school building inthe Namazgah Tepesilocation was started in 1930, and the building was completed in 1935 and allocated to the Girls\' High School. The number of students of the school, which now has its own building, had increased to 862 in the meantime.

Serving as a girls\' high school until 1976, the school switched to a co-educational model from this date on, and its name was changed to \"Ankara High School\".In 2005, it was upgraded to the status ofAnatolian high school.
