This is an unembossed early pontiled \"Godfrey\'s Cordial\" tapered cylinder opium bottle that we dug from an 1840s-50s outhouse privy pit in downtown St.Louis, Mo.....although the bottle has no embossing, the unique shape tells us that it contained Godfrey\'s Cordial, which was a popular opium based pain killer in the early to mid 1800s.......open pontil....crude rolled in lip.....aqua....tapered round.....5 1/8\"tall.....Excellent condition with no chips or damage. A dug bottle but pretty clean with only some light haze.......
