Talk interview with Dr. Abner I. Weisman, professor of obstetrics & gynecology at New York Medical College, author & one-time Sioux Medicine man; about his collection of Pre-Columbian Medical Sculpture currently showing at the Pfizer Building. The sculptures show that Pre-Columbian medicine men knew quite a bit about physical ailments & psychology & understood drugs, & show precise conditions of specific diseases. Found at burial grounds, they are probably, so Weisman thinks, meant to be instructive. In the past 25 yrs Weisman has collected 3000 pieces, acquired from dealers and personal excavations, as a basis for a pioneering book on pre-Columbian medicine which he has been working on for 8 yrs. His collection makes him a leading authority on the clinical precocity of the extinct tribal civilizations of Mexico & Central & South America.
