Part A – Great Western Railway/Grand Trunk Railway/Canadian National Railway

  • Original Railway:Wellington, Grey & Bruce Railway (Great Western Railway Company 1869, Grand Trunk Railway 1882, Canadian National Railway 1923) 1872-1991
  • Current/Final Railway:Canadian National Railway
  • Location/Address:The station was located on the east side of Turnberry Street (Brussels Line/County Road 12, at CN Road
  • Railway Mileage:Kincardine Subdivision Mile 18.6
  • Surrounding Building Context:The community was founded as a rural agricultural service centre for the surrounding farming community. Several mills were established on the banks of a tributary of the Maitland River. The arrival of the railway did result in some industrial growth (see map for details). The station was located to the northeast of the commercial centre, on the edge of the community. Railway uses include large coal and other sheds, a busy large stock pen and a section house.

  • Exterior Architecture Details:The building was a single storey frame structure with a gable rood and hexagonal operator window. As some point, the roof was altered to a bellcast hip roof design, with some alterations occurring to the operator window design and building window placement
  • Interior Architectural Details:The station contained a passenger waiting room, ticket/operator office and a large attached freight shed
  • Landscaping & Ground Details:Cinder platform

  • Current Use:At the end of service, the building was relocated to property at 212 Turnberry St, north of the community centre where the building is used as a lawn bowling clubhouse. As part of the move, the freight shed component of the building was destroyed
