Up for sale is a rare antique early 18th century handmade wooden altar cross.it's carved completely by hand and finished with a painted polychromed finish.the cross is embellished with many symbolic instruments of passion on the face of the cross which are hand applied with wax.the cross is mounted to a hand carved tiered wooden base and has acquired a lovely patina from age.it measures 16 1/4 inches tall by 7 3/4 inches wide.the piece is overall in nice condition especially for age.it has some slight scratches to some of the wax symbols and some paint loss to the cross as shown.
