Vintage Lacquered Yarn Or Rice Bowl Lid Signed 3 Legs Mother Of Pearl Inlay READ:
$24.99

This antique lacquered yarn or rice bowl with lid is a unique piece that showcases outstanding craftsmanship. The bowl features three legs and is possibly signed on the bottom with a triangular or bell shape and a tiny gemstone. Please see the pictures. The mother of pearl inlay is unique and features what we believe is a Fox with a cluster of grapes above his head. The bowl\'s provenance is not available, but it is believed to have been made in Japan with a handmade touch. Its cultural significance is undeniable, making it a valuable addition to any collection. It comes from the Estate of a family in South St. Louis whose home was filled with many beautiful Japanese items. The item falls under the categories of Bowls & Plates, Japanese, 1900-Now, Asian, Cultures & Ethnicities, and Collectibles. Despite the lack of information about its condition, this antique piece is in excellent shape and ready to be displayed or even used. Its rich history and cultural significance alone make it a valuable addition to any collection.
In attempting to research this bowl across several different sources, I am still not satisfied 100% with what it is used for. A majority of people believe it to be a yarn bowl for more expensive and beautiful yarn. (I was unaware that yarn ever needed a bowl!) Others think it could be a Japanese Rice dish and the slot in the bowl is for chopsticks. Despite the fact that this item is of a decent size as you can see in the photos with the tape measure, it weighs only 1 pound and 12 ounces.
In looking for signatures, we discovered a small triangular or bell shape with a tiny little gemstone on the bottom. We have been unsuccessful in finding other similar items with similar markings. This is a rare piece that confuses not only my partner and myself, but also Google Image, imaging, and Worthpoint. Thanks for stopping by. If you would like more information, please ask!
