This is one bell from a large collection that our grandfather assembled from all over the world. All of the bells have been in storage since he passed away in 1977. We plan to have the proceeds go to charities. We\'re also hoping that the bells will filter off to places far and wide around the globe. Grandfather\'s interest in bells came from his recognition that bells are present in cultures all over the world. It seems fitting that these bells will end up all over the world!
This miniature replica bell is one of a number that were were issued by the California Bell Company under A.S.C. Forbes (born Harrye Rebecca Piper Smith) as part of a larger effort to raise interest and funds for the preservation of early Spanish missions along El Camino Real (California Route 101) - a 650 mile route. The foundry produced 450 full sized bells posted along the route beginning in 1906.The bell is marked: 1769-1906 / EL CAMINO REALThe plaque on the stand is marked : EL CAMINO REAL / SAN DIEGO - LOS ANGELES / SAN FRANCISCO.The edge of the base is marked: MISSION BELL GUIDE POST MARKING EL CAMINO REAL THE KINGS HIGHWAYThe underside of thebase also bears the 8-18-14 patent date.Base is 3\" diameter.
