For Your Fish Decoy or Wood Carvings This is a very nice and substantial vintage folk art carved wood fish decoy. The wooden fish is colored in a green, yellow, and orange with black highlights. The fins and tail of the decoy are made of ferrous (sticks to a magnet) thin metal. The fins and tail are painted in green with the tail having black lines. The fis has painted eyes and gills all in black. The carving has very little details except for the shape and the fish's mouth. The fish is weighted with what we believe is lead and the top fin has holes so it can be hung using a thread. A nice vintage decoy which would make a great addition to your collection or can be used to decorate your house at the shore or lake.   • Date: Uncertain, but most likely sometime in the mid 1900s (mid 20th century) or possibly earlier.
  • Origin: Purchased at an estate sale in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
  • Size: Measures ~7 3/8" long including the tail, ~2 1/2" at its widest including the side fins, and about ~2 3/4" at its highest including the top fin. The piece weighs about 6 ounces.
  • Maker: Unknown.
  • Marks: Unmarked.
  • Distinguishing Characteristics - Most Interesting About The Piece: Truly a nice and very interesting fish decoy. A beautiful and substantial piece which would make a worthy addition to your collection of fish decoys or make for a good decorative accent at your shore or lake house.
  • Condition: The decoy is in very good condition, with no breaks, cracks, or repairs. The piece has s few minor scratches, some dings to the surface, and some losses to the paint especially on the painted tin fins and along the edges of the carving (on top and on the bottom edge). The metal fins and tail show some minor rust signs at the spots where the paint is lost. This is most pronounced on the top fin. The piece has minimum wear o the surfaces and paint losses to the body itself. A truly nice piece worthy of a spot in your collection. Please view the photos for additional condition information.
