Very Rare 1914 Harriman Boosters Baseball Team Postcard Minor League Tennessee:
$499.99

This 1914, original, real photo postcard depicts the Harriman Boosters baseball team out of Harriman, Tennessee—perfect for any antique minor league ephemera collector.

The Harriman Boosters was a Minor League Baseball team that played in the Class D Appalachian League in 1914. They were located in Harriman, Tennessee. This team only played one season before declining attendance forced the owners to disband the team. What makes this piece so valuable is the rarity. At the time of writing this, there is no other photo or real photo postcard of this team for sale anywhere online.

The Boosters won their season opener on May 18, defeating the Knoxville Reds, 6–3, at home before a crowd of about 1,000 people. They played their final game, a 3–3 tie against Knoxville called after 12 innings on account of darkness, on June 17. With the other three teams in the circuit losing money from poor attendance, the league disbanded the next day. Harriman compiled a win–loss record of 14–13 (.519), placing third, in its only season of competition.

Regarding the reason for the end of the team, a local newspaper at the time said this:

\"Headline: POOR ATTENDANCE IS REASON WHY APPALACHIAN DISBANDED

\'Poor attendance in all the towns, except Harriman, is the main reason why the Appalachian league disbands today,\' stated E. B. Fisher, president, in discussing the league affairs here. \'It seems that the fans did not take to the four-club league idea. The attendance in Middlesboro was poor, as well as in Knoxville and Morristown. There seemed to be absolutely no interest in the league at all. At Harriman, owing to the novelty of league ball, the attendance was good. However, since three of the four clubs of the circuit were losing money, these three clubs requested that we disband - so there you are.\'

Present Fisher stated that steps might be taken to reorganize the league at some future time, but not this season.

The Morristown players will be transferred to various clubs in the Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia-Alabama leagues, according to information given out here today. The players belonging to the Middlesboro club, as well as to Harriman, will likewise be transferred to other class \'D\' and \'C\' circuits.\"

Please inspect the pictures, as they give the best representation of condition. May have discoloring, edge or corner wear, marks, creases, fading, smudges, corner or edge bends, tears, or corners missing.

In particular, there is a thorough crease in the bottom, left-hand side. The corner is still attached, but can articulate in both directions. It has a few marks on the back, some discoloration, and has general wear along the edges. There are a few more minor creases along the top right corner.
