It is worth noting thatmostrelics I have seen of the Veil of the VirginMary are usually no more than a thread...but this relic has many threads and a distinctive weave, and is clearly made of silk, as is the original held in Chatres Cathedral.

The Veil of theBlessedVirgin Mary, traditionally said to have been worn at thecrucifixion, is the most sacred treasure held in the Cathedral of Chartres, France.

It is made of silk, and scientists have dated it to circa the 1st century Syria.

It was originally held in Constantinople, but was given to theEmperorCharlemagne by the Byzantine Empress Irene in 876AD. The Veil was recently studied and dated...the scientific studies have shown that it is of Syrian design, of fine quality silk and can be traced to the first century!

Every year on 15th August, the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, the Veil is processed through the town of Chartres.

According to Church history, the Veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary was worn by the Virgin as she stood at the foot of the Cross. It had been transferred in the early years of the Christianity from Jerusalem to Constantinople when it was presented by the Byzantine Empress Irene to the Holy Roman Emperor Charlemagne.

In 876 his descendant Charles the Bald gave the relic to the cathedral at Chartres. The Veil is kept in a golden reliquary beside the high altar and has formed the focus of many traditions throughout the centuries. It was believed to have protected the faithful down through the centuries from many dangers and evils, including famine and war, outbreaks of the plague, and the worst ravishes of the French Revolution.

The veil itself is more than six meters long and made of silk. Scientific studies have shown that it is of Syrian design, of fine quality and can be traced to the first century.

Every year on 15th August, the Feast of the Assumption of Our Lady, the Veil is processed through the town of Chartres.

The red silk threads and crisp wax seal of Archbishop Recchus is perfect and intact, ensuring these sacred relics have never been tampered with. It is a perfect match to both the raised seal on the lower left, and the imprinted seal on the upper center.

(The relic of the Virgin\'s Veil is said to help mothers having problemsconceiving)

This relic, along with the others I am listing this week, is from the estate of a French archbishop.

He was well-known for his huge private relic and reliquary collection. He had particular interest in relics of the Holy Family, and saints and objects

mentioned in the Bible.

His name, photo, coat of arms and biography will be provided to the relic\'s new custodian.

I have recently been asked by a few people why I am offering these special relics and not keeping them to my self.

After decades of collecting, I\'ve retired and sold my home. For years I had a chapel in my house, where I not only displayed my relic collection, but also has a consecrated altar and tabernacle with the Holy Eucharist.

After my retirement, I had to downsize, and I no longer have the luxury of having an entire chapel in my home to display and store my collection. This relic is one of my treasures. I do not have room to display it, and I have stored this relic in a bank safety deposit box as I live in a possible flood/hurricane zone.

I\'ve realized it\'s now time for others to become the guardians of these holy relics, and venerate them properly.

Please use caution when buying relics on line. Counterfeit Relics are increasingly more and more common.

I’m more and more concerned by the sheer number of counterfeit relics on the internet. At this point I can say that the MAJORITY of relics now offered are fake. The advent of 3D printing had exasperated the problem. Having collected relics for over 40 years, I am a well known expert in the field of relics and reliquaries. If you send me an item number, I will gladly offer my humble opinion as to its authenticity. The new fakes jump right out to me because both the styles of seals on both on the documents and relics only appeared about 3 years ago…these variations just did not exist when they are purported to have been made…

-there is NO SUCH THING AS A TUBE RELIQUARY! All tube relics are counterfeit.

-Most of the folded paper relics are counterfeit.

-ANY certificate or wax seal with the Papal insignia of the crossed keys of St. Peter are counterfeit. The pope has better things to do than issue relics…all relics in the Vatican are ONLY issued by the Papal Custodian of relics, or individual Bishops/Cardinals. NEVER by ANY Pope.

I have never seen an authentic first class relic of the following on the internet...they are all counterfeit, I guarantee:

- Pope John Paul 2

- Mother Theresa

- Edith Stein

- Padre Pio

- Max. Kolbe

- Faustina Kowalska

- Kateri Tekakwitha

- the Shroud of Turin

- the blood of Christ

My cousin, a parish priest in NY, and the pastor of his church, along with his bishop, have tried for years to obtain a first class relic of John Paul 2...to no avail, yet there always seems to be many available on ....beware!!

If it is too good to be true, IT IS!!!

What Does Scripture Say About Relics?

(1) The starting point for an examination of Scripture on this point should be Acts 19:11-12:

God did extraordinary miracles through Paul, so that even handkerchiefs and aprons that had touched him were taken to the sick, and their illnesses were cured and the evil spirits left them.

(2). But these miraculous relics weren’t limited to Paul. In Acts 5:12-16, we read:

The Apostles performed many signs and wonders among the people...more and more men and women believed in the Lord and were added to their number.

As a result, people brought the sick into the streets and laid them on beds and mats so that at least Peter’s shadow might fall on some of them as he passed by. Crowds gathered also from the towns around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those tormented by impure spirits, and all of them were healed.

(3). We see this in the life of Christ Himself. Mark 5:25-34:

And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.

When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed”.

Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.

At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

“You see the people crowding against you,” his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’”But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.”

This is a very different miracle from the ones we’re used to. Here, simply touching the clothing of Christ heals this woman, before He’s even aware that she’s there.

St. Mark actually makes a point of including the fact that He felt the power go out from Him, but still asked who it was who had touched Him. And Jesus ascribes the healing to the woman’s faith, although it’s clear that His own power is the operative power of healing. She’s got the faith to believe that simply to touch something worn by Christ is sufficient to be healed.

Some Protestants consider that superstition, but our Lord apparently does not.

(4). Go back to the Old Testament, to Elisha. 2 Kings 13:20-21

Elisha died and was buried. Now Moabite raiders used to enter the country every spring. Once while some Israelites were burying a man, suddenly they saw a band of raiders; so they threw the man’s body into Elisha’s tomb. When the body touched Elisha’s bones, the man came to life and stood up on his feet.

This passage is important, because it shows that the Saint isn’t actively performing these, in the way that other miracles are performed. Even after Elisha’s dead, God works through him.

That’s the reason relics work, at the end of the day: because God wills to use all sorts of things to bring about healing and salvation. But He doesn’t choose randomly – in every case, it’s either been His Son or the Saints who He works through.
