A vintage (1980?) ceramic Truman Best Bitter ashtray from Truman Hanbury & Buxtom Brewery, London E1, UK.

The ashtray measures approximately 7.75 inches long, 6 inches wide and 2 inches tall. It has slots for 4 cigarettes and is screen printed and embossed. See the photos for a better view of the condition of this marvelous piece of breweriana and tobacco history.

British bitter ales are Tom\'s favorite style of beer (followed closely by Germin pilsners), but he has never had Truman\'s, so he can\'t speak to the taste or quality.

Truman, Hanbury, Buxton & Co. was a venerable British brewery that operated for more than 3 centuries; from at least 1666 until it closed in 1988. The original brewery was built on Lolsworth Field, Spitalhope, London, by Thomas Bucknall in 1669.

The Truman brand was brought back to life in 2010 as a craft micro-brew and is still available in select London pubs today.

We don\'t know the exact date of manufacture for this item, but WE BELIEVE that it was made sometime between the late 1970s and mid-1980s. Of course we could be wrong, so if you have any better information on this item, please let us know and we\'ll update this post as appropriate.

Condition is Excellent, Used. No chips, cracks, breaks, scratches, wear, or color fading. There is some tiny remains of cigarette ash in the crevices, but that will likely wash off relatively easily with soapy water.
