VINTAGE WASHINGTON MINING HISTORY!! HARD COVER!! RARE - OVER 100 YEAR OLD!!

This is Washington Geologic Survey Bulletin 5, Part 1: Geology and Ore Deposits of the Myers Creek Mining District, and Part 2:Geology and Ore Deposits of the Oroville-Nighthawk Mining District. This 11-page hard cover book published in 1911 discusses these two mining districts. Part 1 is 52 pages and has a nice full-color fold out map in good condition. Part 2 is 59 pages and also has a nice full-color fold out map in good condition. Both reports detail the mining, mineralogy, and mines and prospects of their districts.

The Myers Creek gold district in Eastern Washington was fairly new at the time and had only produced about $100,000 in gold from placers, from deposits on Buckhorn mountain, and from other deposits in the area. Since the district had been discovered since 1902, the last time any State geological studies occurred in the area, it was not that well developed at the time of writing. The text describes the geology, rock types, minerals, and the various deposits and prospects in the area. Its a good descriptive work that is very readable with a basic geologic knowledge.

The Oroville-Nighthawkgold area include several mining districts with some common features in Okanogan county. Production came from placers and lode deposits. The area was discovered and developed over many years from initial discovery in around 1859. Probably a million dollars in gold had been produced. Copper was also produced from lode depositsand in places was the greater value. Like part 1, the text describes the geology, rock types, minerals, and the various deposits and prospects in the area. This section also has some nice diagrammatic drawings of geologic features of the deposits.

See the photos for shots of the Table of Contents. There are many mines and prospects discussed in sections of each report. Each gets at least a paragraph, often more.

This is a great pair of reports on these two old mining areas under one cover. This is a rare book I have never seen or offered before. It is available as crummy reprints, but originals are hard to come by. The best part is that, being original, the maps and graphics are top quality. Don\'t miss this opportunity. Those of you who know me know I don\'t use the word \'rare\' lightly. In this case it is true.

As always, please read the condition notes.
