The Improved Combat Shelter is the nextgeneration one soldier combat shelter currentlybeing used by the U.S. military. This nextgeneration shelter is made of lightweight,durable, flame resistant rip stop nylon.The ICS is a versatile, man-portable, sheltersystem for one person. The ICS tent consists of ashelter body, an attachable rain fly (provides awaterproof shelter and forms a shelter storagevestibule, it also can function separately as ahooch), support poles, ground stakes, carry bag,and a field repair kit. The ICS is a single-storage vestibule, one-person size, double-walled, freestanding shelter that strikes easily. The ICS provides protection from rain, wind, and snow inclimates ranging from basic cold through tropical hot without leaking or collapsing. The shelteris made with flame resistant materials.

Improved Combat Shelter Description:
a)Minimum configuration (i.e., overhead protection as in a hooch or lean-to) to provide essential environmentalprotection from rain and snow,
b) Combined configuration (i.e., shelter component capable of being closed, while still providing adequate ventilation,and interfacing with the minimum configuration component to provide combined overhead and side/end wall protection)to provide essential environmental protection from wind, rain, and snow to the Soldier and his equipment (i.e., rucksack)during extended operations Combined configuration required characteristics are as follows: Weigh 6.5 poundsmaximum; low bulk to enable it to be easily carried (separate pouch/pocket may be used to pack/contain theitem/components); means for tie-down/staking to form shelter and means for alternate capability as a stand-alone, closed configuration shelter; minimum visual signature and profile (i.e., not greater than that of the current Shelter Half);multicolor visual camouflage; self-supporting (i.e., pole(s)); durable to provide 120 days minimum service.
