Card signed by neurophysiologist and Nobel Prize winner Charles Scott Sherrington, with date in his hand and embossed seal tipped onto front of card along with newspaper portrait and notes by autograph collector. Partial envelope in Sherrington's hand tipped onto reverse.
Thin cardboard stock with rounded corners. Card measures 4.5" x 3.5". Removed from larger autograph album, with glue marks to corners on reverse.
From the collection of Captain Peter Johnston-Saint, who worked for many years as an agent collecting on behalf of Sir Henry Wellcome. Part of this was collection originally acquired by Alain Raffin, who sent out cardboard cards for autographs from many famous personages during the interwar era. This collection was purchased at the Sotheby's December 10th, 2019 sale.
