SCARCE Vietnam Era USAAF PATCH Broken Arrow Warner\'s Warriors Patch USAF:
$349.50

These were recently purchased from the estate of a widow whose husband had a long history with the United States Air Force. These are very  scarce patches. I found the information of what they represent, but I couldn\'t find any more patches like them.  In my research I found these patches were given out to some individuals that were involved, but the patches were not allowed to be displayed or worn?

This patch is approximately 3\" x 2.75\" in size. It is in very good condition. It looks like there may be a couple of small holes on the back of the patch where a moth started eating the felt. There is also a small indentation on the front of the patch near the arrows feathes.

The whole mission was classified for many, many years. I have added screenshots of some of the information that I have acquired.

These are a must have for anyone that collects military stuff! These are pretty much unicorns, and apparently very hard to come by.

Patch US AF Codename Broken Arrow, \"Warner\'s Warriors\", 1966 Palomares B-52 & KC-135 Crash, [Occured on January 17, 1966 . The Loss of a Nuclear Weapon in the Sea of Spain Following the Collision of a B-52G Stratofortress and it\'s KC-135 Stratotanker, Broken Arrow is the Codename for a Nuke Down, and the Commander of the Sixteenth Air Force General Wilson thought up the Warner\'s Warriors name, the KC-135 was Completely Destroyed, Killing all Four Crew Members, the B-52G Broke Apart, Killing three of the Seven Crew Members Aboard, it Took the US Three and a Half Months Intensive Searching to Recover the MK28 Hydrogen Bomb.]

{ The following information between the two asterisks ** was sent to me by a fellow er. }

** The Palomares BROKEN ARROW made headlines around the world, largely on account of the drama surrounding the \"missing H-bomb\" that was eventually recovered months later. In 1967, Washington Post correspondent Flora Lewis wrote a book about the incident that included a description of the commemorative emblem:

\"A special patch was designed for men who had been in the Palomares Theater of Operations. It showed the red mountains, the white Air Force stars, the blue sky pierced by a yellow broken arrow, \'the symbol of the condition that requires our presence,\" as the Air Force memo put it. All SAC generals have code names , Wilson\'s code was Warner, and the patch memorialized that, too, with the inscription \'Warner\'s Warriors.\'\"

The two white stars represented Wilson\'s rank. The original version of the patch was printed and affixed to a black felt backing, and had gold-colored lettering and other elements. A later, more common, variant (perhaps produced later) was embroidered on a twill cloth background. **
