It was discovered in 1799, by which time all knowledge of ancient Egyptian language and writing has been lost for over 1000 years. The stones inscription helped many scholars to decipher two Egyptian scripts (written in hieroglyphics, and one in cursive demotic script) from the Greek section at the bottom
