This is a beauty! It is a RP Real Photo RPPC. It shows an image of a large airship. There is also a photo inset with an image of a man identified asDr. Hugo Eckener. The zeppelin or blimp is marked Graf Zeppelin.
The LZ 127 was christenedGraf Zeppelinby Countess Brandenstein-Zeppelin on 8 July 1928, after her father Ferdinand von Zeppelin, the founder of the company, on the 90th anniversary of his birth.In October 1928Graf Zeppelinmade its first intercontinental trip, to Lakehurst Naval Air Station in NJ with Dr. Hugo Eckener in command. During most of its career, it was operated by Luftschiffbau Zeppelin's commercial flight arm,DELAGin conjunction with theHamburg-American Line.Passengers paid premium fares to fly on theGraf Zeppelin fromGermany toRioin 1934, equal to $590 then $11,000 now. Fees were also collected for valuable freight and air mail to produce income. On the first transatlantic flight,theGraf Zeppelincarried 66,000 postcards andpostal covers!
The card back has handwriting that reads it was beautiful to see the landing at Lakehurst. Card back is divided andis postally unused. Condition is very good to excellent.
