281st Assault Helicopter Company Formed fromAssault Helicopter Units operating out of Nha Trang, the 281st AssaultHelicopter Company was formed in-country at Nha Trang in 1966.

The 281st was a Special Forces Designated,Assault Helicopter Company and operated only with Special Forces Operatives.

The 281st was the Only AHC assigned to ProjectDelta and Detachment B-52 (Recondo School, Nhsa Trang, Lang Hai Island).

The mission of the Intruders and theirpassengers involved in Project Delta was;

5 Companies of the Tiger Force Rangersoperating as SPECIAL REACTION FORCES.

The 281st was charged with the insertion,extraction and Medevac of over 90 US Special Forces Personnel and over 1,200Indigenous operatives as well as their role in the training of Special ForcesOperatives at the US Special Forces Recondo School (B-52).

The Unit ceased operations on the 30th of June1970 Detachment B-52.

The duties of USSF B-52 was to train US SpecialForces and Elite US Army personnel in Long Range Reconnaissance Techniques.

The first group of trainees were from the eliteof the 101st Airborne Division (and they were volunteers) and commenced theircourse in September 1965.

The MACV Recondo School was taught at Nha Trangwith combat exercises conducted at Hon Tre Island.

Only the elite of any unit were picked toattend, combat experience was essential.

Over 2,000 of the Soldiers that started thecourse failed to complete it due to the strict guidelines of completionprovided by the MACV.
