Magnesium doesn't pose much of a challenge even if it's not something you can find at Home Depot. Widely used in industry as an alloying agent and also a lab staple for a wide variety of chemistry applications, it is most often sold as ribbons or powdered metal. Alloyed with aluminum it becomes a very light yet strong metal. For this reason it's often picked as the choice material for the priciest electronics such as professional cameras and luxury laptops.
The first thing you notice about magnesium is how dazzling white it is. And then you hold it in your hand and your brain does a double-take. Is this actually metal?? Magnesium is very light: a full 50% less than aluminum! You half expect it to float in air, or at least water, but no, it's all mind tricks. And speaking of water, keep it away. The two don't get along as water (especially hot water) will readily attack magnesium and dull that beautiful snow-white finish with tarnish.
Interestingly, various web sources repetitively cite that terbium is so soft that it can be cut with a knife. This is incorrect; a sharp steel knife will barely scratch pure terbium. Its true hardness is comparable to that of iron. Also, although terbium is relatively stable in air a freshly cut piece will eventually tarnish due to moisture in the air which reacts to form superficial oxides and hydroxides.
