Late 1950s California Pictorial Menu PRISTINE - "Old Virginia" Vintage Pasadena:

Menu is un-dated but was found with several other menus that were all dated 1957 - 1959, so I'd guess about the same for this one. It was made/drawn/printedby a commercial artist relative named Robert "Van" Rensselaer. This was his personal copy, made just for his work portfolio, so it was never used.
"Old Virginia" was quitea historic place, it was one of the oldest and most popular restaurants in Pasadena.I'mnot sure what happened to it but I suspect it fell victim to eminent domain, as the area where it once stoodisnowin the footprint of a massivefreeway interchange.
I'm including some of Van's artwork (2 photostats and 1 sketch/tracing) that show earlierversions of the lion character. It's aneat insight into his process. I think this menu might've been a prototype, or at least I hope it was, because Roanoke is misspelled on the pictorial map!
The menu is large (11.5" x 16.5"). Condition isexcellent. Looks like it was just printed yesterday.
