LAST FEW NEW BOOKSTheLehigh & New England Railroad enjoyed a reputation forinnovation, efficiency and top-notch operations, and this bookcaptures these elements as it draws upon archival photos, equipmentdispositions and former Lehigh & New England employee testimoniesto relive memories of this great road.

The L&NE reliedheavily on Alco motive power and you'll see them in action at hotspots such as Tadmor Yard, the Jacksonville Grade and Pen Argyl --Pen Argyl to the cement region, Pen Argyl to the coal fields, PenArgyl to the New England Gateway, the aftermath. The Lehigh &New England was a bridge carrier stretching from Anthracite countryin northeastern Pennsylvania to the gateway yard at Maybrook, NewYork. The L&NE Board of Directors decided to end allrailroad operations on October 31, 1961. Although the LNE was stillprofitable, the rapid decline of the anthracite coal business wasseen on the horizon and the decision was made to cease operations. In 1961, the Central Railroad of New Jersey took over someformer L&NE lines in Pennsylvania. This book featuresrare photos of this anthracite carrier in its final twenty years, from the hard coal fields of Pennsylvania to Maybrook, New Yorkvia the New York Susquehanna & Western.Enjoy great photos of Camelbacks and conventional steam, totransition era ALCO FA-1s and RS-2s. This is a well writtenhistory throughout the book.A lot of diesel and steam photos. Includes some colleries. A lot of great scenery shots, double header steam engines.
