Molded one piece front. The top is about 12" tall when measured from the top of the sole and about 14" tall when measured from the floor.
This boot was originally called the M1851 Artillery Driver's Boot, as it was originally only issued to Artillery Drivers. During the Civil War they were also issued to Cavalry troops and continued as the Cavalry Boot until replaced by the Model 1872 Boot, which is a modified version of this boot(what is inour pictures)
