The NY National Guard was active during the Civil War, resonding to the 1863 Draft Riots that erupted across the state. An Original Civil War NYNG Militia Discharge issued for Captain Schug Of Syracuse, Onondaga County, New York, noting his company is liable to reactivation "In case of Insurrection or Invasion", given Sept 1, 1866, and signed by General John B Stonehouse as Asst Adjutant General, and by Governor Reuben E Fenton . The handsome 1 pg Discharge bears an illus of the New York State Military Seal. The ptd/ink signed Discharge has minor wear at folds and age stains, Overall VG. Comes w bio info. General Stonehouse was NY Asst Adjutant General during the Civil War, and Colonel of the 187th New York NG. He and Governor Fenton were active in maintaining order during Lee's Invasion of Pennsylvania in 1863 and the New York Draft Riots.
