WILLIAM HURRELL MALLOCK (1849 – 1923) was a British author who focused his work on exposing radical and socialist ideas and in support of the Roman Catholic Church. His books included Labor and the Popular Welfare, 1883, The Limits of Pure Democracy, 1914, New Republic, 1877.

One page, 6 x 8 3/4, TLS, from the Bachelors’ Club, Hamilton Place, August 31, 1905, discounting psychic influences in his life, to an unnamed recipient, a topic of great interest at the time.

“In answer to your letter of the 26th, I beg to say that I should have been pleased to have contributed any experiences of the kind you have in view, had any such experiences been mine. A certain number of odd coincidences, I suppose, occur in the lives of all of us; but nothing whatever has occurred to me personally which even suggested the operation of any abnormal agency. Your letter, addressed to me in Devonshire, has only just reached me, or I would have sent you a reply earlier.

Toning, fold, light stain. Very readable and a nice example of a letter from a notable author commenting on psychic phenomena.
