From the INTRODUCTION:

This book deals exclusively with the cast iron engines built from the early 1920's up to the 1950's and does not cover any of the more modern aluminum engines. Be aware however that aluminum parts such as oil sumps, cylinder heads, and shrouds were used on special lightweight versions of the early engines.

There is no attempt here to discuss the restoration or repair of these engines. Suchinformation is contained in other books and service literature from Briggs &Stratton. This is merely a compilation of Specifications and manufacturing datedata that have been gathered from various sources and condensed into what ishopefully a useful format.

Because of the wide variety of sources used and the occurrence of conflicting data insome of the sources, there can be no guarantee of accuracy in this information. Ihave attempted to determine the best source if possible. 1 would appreciate anycorrections or additions that could be added to a future revision of this book.
