In an attempt to retrieve their abducted comrades, the Avengers, with the complicity of Nick Fury who provides a spaceship to Captain America and comrades, reach space finding themselves facing the fearsome Imperial Skrull fleet. Despite the disparity of forces on the field, our heroes, attacking the Skrulls head-on, manage to penetrate inside a spaceship where they witness from a monitor the ramblings of Emperor Dorrek and the subsequent escape of Captain Marvel, Scarlet and Quicksilver. Meanwhile, a galaxy away, Ronan the Kree, who had sent some of his own to recruit Inhumans to fight the Skrulls, has young Rick Jones handed over for no apparent reason. Thrown into a cell, Rick is contacted by the Supreme Intelligence, the artificial intelligence that has long led the Kree empire and was recently deposed by Ronan, who, after making him aware that he has manipulated certain events concerning him, transfers the boy to the Negative Zone.

In the course of the cosmic war between the Kree and Skrulls, while a group of Avengers face the Skrull troops, and Captain Marvel, along with Scarlet and his brother Quicksilver, break free from the captivity imposed on him by the shape-shifting aliens, young Rick Jones after being catapulted into the Negative Zone and escaping Annihilus\' attack, returns to the Kree galaxy where, thanks to the help of the Supreme Intelligence, he is able to mentally generate the Invaders supergroup and unmask the Skrull who on Earth has stirred public opinion against the Avengers by taking the form of Craddock. The power given to him by the Supreme Intelligence allows Rick to immobilize both the Skrulls and the Kree by summoning the Avengers but the effort is such that the young man is in danger of dying. The Supreme Intelligence, which has once again obtained the leadership of the Kree Empire, advises Captain Marvel to reunite with Rick Jones, who is saved in this way. With the conflict over, the Avengers finally reunited all return to Earth except for Goliath who has mysteriously disappeared.
