This portrait shows a young woman looking quite mournful, dressed in a very full and luxurious satin gown with a headpiece to match. She clutches something in her hand that I immediately clocked as her phone and then remembered…this was taken over 100 years ago! Is it another portrait in her hand?

Her size is unusual- and as a woman of size myself, I love seeing the representation 🥹

Her portrait was found encased in a broken frame- as you see here. Dust and debris had permeated the enclosure- which isn’t supposed to happen. It was so covered in debris and dust you really couldn’t tell there was a photo of a person inside.

I did some reading and very carefully removed the photo from the frame for cleaning. The glass was thoroughly cleaned and dried; the backing dusted with air. The photo was only gently brushed with a dry brush and dry lint free non abrasive cloth. No solvent or moisture was used on the photo.

As you can see, there are spots from past moisture exposure on the backing cardboard. $2.00 or something like it is handwritten on backing as shown.

Photo has some bubbles, scrapes and discoloration as shown. Please review all photos carefully for best representation of item’s condition and inclusions.

The frame has been carefully reassembled to house the portrait without the many many layers of dust and dirt. As shown, the frame is broken in that it is missing what was surely a second half that would have clasped the shown hook. The remaining piece is sound, although still a little dusty and grimy in corners as I only gently wiped it down so as not to damage it. There is some corrosion to the metal as shown.
