Tea Caddy late 18th Century or very early 19th Century. Burl wood veneer with hand painted floral arrangements. Mother of pearl overlay on lock. Imprinted "Manse A Spa" on top of lock plate, which is a fixture in England for centuries. Measures 9" across by 5". Shows chipping and scuffing around the entire piece. Paint work is beautiful, color is particularly vibrant on the inserts that have not had the same exposure as the outside. Still has paper lining to cover that was there to absorb moisture and keep tea fresh. Lock functions, with original key included. Hand painted inserts are inside but have a small amount of expansion and do not settle on the bottom cleanly. Underside used to have a marble paper finish that has mostly worn away. Even with chipping and veneer loss shows well and is a stunning rare piece.
