This is a Scarce 48pcs Antique Lot of Flag Pinbacks made of Celluloid in 1896.

We are pleased to present you a antique 48 pieces lot of flag pinbacks for your consideration. A pinback is a button or badge that can be temporarily fastened to the surface of a garment using a safety pin, or a pin formed from wire. This fastening mechanism is anchored to the back side of a button-shaped metal disk, either flat or concave, which leaves an area on the front of the button to carry an image or printed message. Benjamin S. Whitehead patented the first innovation to the design in 1893 by inserting a sheet of transparent film made of celluloid over a photograph mounted on a badge to protect the image from scratches and abrasion.

The pinbacks are made of celluloid and metal back. It is made in 1896. It shows various image of flags from different countries. Made by Sweet Caporal, American Pepsin Gum Co., Riley-Klotz Mfc and Whitehead & Hoad Co. Measures 7/8 inches in diameter. It also comes in a very nice pinback collection case. Total weight is 1 lb and 4 oz.

The pinbacks shows some minor scratches and discoloration from age. Other pinbacks doesn't have the back paper anymore. Please do see the pictures for the actual condition of each pinback. Overall the lot is in very good condition considering its age.
