DESCRIPTION:Offered for your review and consideration is this undamaged, late 19th to early 20th century American folk art, New England primitive, antique hand woven splint black ash wooden basket, featuring a hand carved wooden handle, tall sidewalls, with a deep interior basin. The basket\'s tall, measuring 18 3/4\" in overall height, including the hand carved black ash steamed, bentwood, looped, arching handle. The basket could have been designed to gather vegetables, fruit or cut flowers. It also could have been originally designed to hold and carry washed clothes to hang outside on a line to dry. The splint black ash sidewalls are virtually undamaged, with no wood loss on the baseplate\'s edges and no material loss around the black ash bentwood upper rim. The wood has naturally aged color and has a wonderful, dry, matte patina, that was never lacquered over, painted or varnished. It wasn\'t left out-of-doors, as the splint black ash wood has not grayed. This was a clearly highly valued basket that was cared for and one that was extremely well-made and durable. Very fine and absolutely gorgeous.CONDITION:Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition.
