He was clean for 10 years while in military school, in the service and as a Pinellas policeman. Pain killers, taken after an accident "woke up the monkey" in him. Now 34 he kicked the habit after a drug conviction and stays in a narcotics hospital and therapeutic community. Other full time staffers at PAR (not pictured) are Mrs. Shirley Coletti, director and Miss Shirley Ludwig, social services coordinator. They're assisted by a host of volunteers, including doctors, psychiatrists, nurses and secretaries. The national average cost per year of methadone maintenance is $1,500 per patient.
